We believe the working class can abolish capitalism and create a communist society based on collective freedom, human need, and ecological sustainability. We are building the power we need to do it. We are for anarchy and communism. An anarchist communist society is founded on self-management in all areas of life, guided by the principle: “from each according to ability, to each according to need.”. We understand that how we do things matters. The methods we use are inseparably linked to the outcomes we can achieve. Our actions today shape the direction and potential of revolutionary struggle. Our means must be consistent with our desired ends. We are for federalism and self management. Self-management means workers directly and collectively controlling their own affairs. Federalism is a method of organisation in which power flows from the rank-and-file upward. Decisions are made at the base.
The Australian Communist Party is a Marxist-Leninist organisation that seeks to lead Australia from being a capitalist society to a socialist one. The Party seeks to build the strongest ties with the struggles of the working class and to earn a position of trust and leadership. Members of the ACP are active in their workplaces and communities to best serve all exploited people for the cause of socialism. The ACP is committed to tried and proven tactics of class struggle and practical support and inherits the best traditions of the Australian working class. A socialist Australia will strive to undo the injustices heaped on the Aboriginal peoples of the country. Questions like land rights will never be resolved under capitalism. The ACP is an internationalist party that prioritises the struggles of the Australian working class, by pursuing an independent foreign policy based on solidarity and mutual benefit.
Have you always wanted to join a party like Victorian Socialists but live outside of Victoria? Now you can. We’re setting up new parties in ACT, NSW, NT, Queensland, SA, Tasmania, Victoria and WA.
The Black Peoples Union is a revolutionary organisation that aims to empower Indigenous people in Australia through the pursuit of full self-determination and sovereignty. We believe that as sovereign Indigenous people we have the right to manage our own political, social, and economic affairs as we see fit, without interference from outside forces. Our organisation is made up of a passionate and dedicated collective who are committed to fighting for the rights of First Nations people. We understand that the history of colonisation in Australia has had a devastating impact on our communities, and we are determined to work towards a future where we can heal from the trauma of the past and build a better future for ourselves and future generations. We at the Black Peoples Union refuse to be beholden to the rules and regulations dictated by bodies such as the ACTU and State and Federal Governments and believe that, as Sovereign People, we have the right to participate in economic and political self-determination as we deem fit and on our own terms by acting independently and without regard to these bodies and the crippling rules and regulations they place on other unions and progressive associations.
The Communist Party of Australia believes there is a way to overcome Australia’s economic and social problems. To do this it is necessary to change the direction of politics in Australia and, eventually, to replace the capitalist system with a socialist one, we are a party of activists who work in trade unions, peace and environmental groups, solidarity organisations and a variety of other community movements as well as running campaigns in the name of the Communist Party. We strive to develop the Communist Party into a party capable of helping to educate, organise, unite and fight together with all the left, progressive and democratic political forces in building a broad people’s movement with the working class as its core.
The Communist Party of Australia (Marxist–Leninist), is an Australian communist party founded in 1964. The party's origins derived from a split within the Communist Party of Australia (CPA), stemming from the Sino-Soviet split. The party describes its ideology as being influenced by the works of Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong and Ted Hill. The party adheres to what it calls the "iceberg principle": A few members are seen and are open about their membership to allow the organisation to be accessible to the working class, while the membership of the majority remains largely unknown, it is revealed appropriately as their workplace, community and personal circumstances demand.
We are a communist pre-party fighting group who believe that the most important next step for socialist militants in Australia is reforging a united communist party. This party must have real internal democracy, with open debates and the freedom to form internal factions. It must not be a coalition of sectarian groups, or a wishy-washy "broad-left" front. It must be a democratic centralist vanguard organisation united around a common program for action, rather than agreement with a narrow set of theoretical principles or self-identification with "socialism". We have a draft program, internal democracy, and open factions. We practice unity in action and freedom of criticism. We are drawn from a variety of socialist tendencies and life experiences, and we are united by our iron-clad determination to prepare the working class for social revolution. Our aim is to win the socialist movement to this strategy. Divided as we are, we cannot ignore the current state of our movement or skip over the pre-existing socialist groups. We must unite it!
The Eureka Initiative serves two goals. Our first and immediate goal is to develop and spread class consciousness and a revolutionary political approach among the Australia people, through the tools of propaganda, media and volunteer work. Our secondary goal is working towards the establishment of Socialism in Australia through securing national independence and the formation of a true mass party of the Australian people. The Australian Labor Party (ALP) was the historical party of the Australian working class, however it was founded on an incomplete and undeveloped social-democratic line that led it down the path of racial chauvinism in its early days and neoliberal capitulation in more recent times. This Social-Democratic foundation must be discarded and replaced with a developed Marxist-Leninist line adapted to the conditions of Australia. We aim towards the establishment and consolidation of a Communist Party that will serve as the vehicle for the interests and will of the Australian working classes. The Communist Party must be independent, maintain a militant class consciousness and embed itself in the fabric of Australian society on as many levels as possible. We will work with other organisations and parties who share this goal.
IWW AusROC is the section of the IWW representing the Australasian region, with members in Australia, Aotearoa (New Zealand), Singapore and Thailand. We are excited to work with anyone who wishes to set up an IWW branch in any of these, or surrounding regions. The IWW fights for better working conditions, benefits and pay for all workers across every industry. We believe that the worker, not the CEO or owner is the backbone of any business, and that our labour should be rewarded fairly. The IWW believes in the power of direct action – of organising on the job, with our co-workers, to directly fix the problems that we face. We want to empower all workers to unite and improve our lives together through our own actions.
The League of Internationalist Communists is a group of workers who organise around and defend uncompromising communist politics. Our fundamental position is identified with the rejection of every form of class collaboration in favour of class war: permanent civil war against the capitalist class and its system, to be waged without compromise or restraint. We are for communism—a global stateless, classless, moneyless society in which land, resources, and the instruments of work are held in common ownership by society and production is consciously organised and planned by the freely associated producers. Our immediate goals as an organisation are to regroup all those around the world who subscribe to genuine communist positions and aid others still coming to such positions in developing a more coherent political perspective through regular external discussions.
Red Ant is a small group of activists who share a perspective of socialism and internationalist Marxism. We believe that capitalism is a failed system and must be overthrown by a revolutionary movement based on the power of the working class. A successful revolutionary movement in a rich country like Australia must be founded on an outlook and practice of anti-imperialism. The world is starkly polarised between a small group of rich countries and the vast majority of societies that comprise the Global South, including many poorer former socialist countries. The rich countries continuously struggle to maintain not only their own individual country’s capacity to exploit, but the existing structures of global divide and exploitation. It is these rich countries, that economically dominate the global capitalist economy, benefit from the exploitation of the poor countries and endeavour to maintain this global status quo, which are the true imperialist societies today.
Red Spark is a pre-party formation with a long-term goal of establishing a revolutionary Marxist party. This party will be built on a clear program, aimed primarily at organising and leading the working class and its allies to overthrow the rule of the capitalist class and create a socialist society. All of the group’s activities, methods, and internal organisation are designed to serve this goal. Red Spark will model its organisational structure and methods on the proven Leninist principles, particularly democratic centralism. The Bolshevik Party of Lenin stands as the most exemplary model for leading a proletarian revolution.
SEARCH advocates for a democratic and ecologically socialist Australia, while working towards achieving greater democracy, economic and social equality, environmental sustainability, human rights, and international peace and cooperation. We aim to provide a space where the diversity of the Australian Left can come together to debate ideas, share knowledge and build solidarity. We run events and forums, socialist education programs, publish reports and articles and promote activism through our member-led working groups. We also partner with like-minded organisations and campaigns to help build movements and institutions that can meet our objectives.
Socialist Alliance stands for socialism — a democratic society run by and for working people, not the greedy, destructive capitalist elite that now rules. We put people and the planet before profit, the millions before the billionaires. We believe that a society based on this principle is entirely realistic, and necessary if humanity and the planet are to survive. We believe that in order to bring about such a society, we have to replace the institutions that protect and defend this ruling elite (such as parliament, government administration, police and the military) with institutions under the democratic control of ordinary people. In other words we need revolutionary change, brought about with the active participation of the majority of people.
Socialist Alternative is a revolutionary Marxist organisation. We stand for the overthrow of capitalism and the construction of a world socialist system. By socialism we mean a system in which society is democratically controlled by the working class and the productive resources of society are channelled to abolishing class divisions. Only socialism can rid the world of poverty and inequality, stop imperialist wars, end oppression and exploitation, save the environment from destruction and provide the conditions for the full realisation of human creative potential. A system under the democratic control of the working class is the only basis for establishing a classless, prosperous, sustainable society based on the principle “from each according to their ability, to each according to their need”.
The Socialist Equality Party is the Australian section of the International Committee of the Fourth International, the World Party of Socialist Revolution founded by Leon Trotsky in 1938. The principles of the SEP incorporate the lessons of the strategic experiences of the international working class throughout the 20th century and of the struggle waged by Marxists for the program of world socialist revolution. The program of the Socialist Equality Party expresses the interests of the working class, the leading and decisive international revolutionary social force in modern capitalist society. The central task of the SEP is to win the support of Australian workers for the program of international socialism. The SEP strives, on the basis of this program, to unify and mobilise the working class for the conquest of political power and the establishment of a workers’ state in Australia. In doing so, it will create the objective preconditions for the development of a genuinely democratic, egalitarian and socialist society.
Solidarity is a socialist group that is opposed to the madness of capitalism, which is plunging us into global recession and misery at the same time as wrecking the planet’s future. We are taking the first steps towards building an organisation that can help lead the fight for an alternative system based on mass democratic planning, in the interests of human need not profit. We stand for socialism, a society that would be based on democratically elected workers councils which control and plan the economy to produce for human need and environmental sustainability. We believe that authoritarian states like the USSR/Russia and China were not socialist but a form of state capitalism where workers had no control over society and were denied even basic rights.
Trotskyist Platform (TP) stands against the capitalist system. We struggle towards a socialist world where exploitation of labour, unemployment, racism, oppression of women and imperialist subjugation of “Third World” countries will become things of the past. With decaying capitalist rule in Australia as well as in the rest of the world causing unaffordable rents, rising poverty and homelessness, a lack of secure jobs for new generations, ever greater racist subjugation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and racist attacks on other people of colour, the terrifying growth of violent far-right forces, increasing misogynist violence against women, genocidal terror against the Palestinian people and bloody wars waged by the imperialist Western powers to enforce their tyranny over the world, the need to sweep away capitalist rule is more urgent than ever. To fight for socialism in Australia we need to build a party like Lenin and Trotsky’s Bolshevik Party that led the October 1917 Socialist Revolution in Russia. That revolution has been to date the only successful overturn of capitalist rule in what was an imperialist-type, capitalist country, which is what Australia is today.
